Mato Katori (火鳥 真斗 Katori Mato) is a main character of the Amanchu! series. She is the adviser to the Diving Club and the homeroom teacher of Hikari Kohinata and Futaba Ooki.

Appearance

Mato is a pale-skinned young woman with long dark-brown hair (sometimes portrayed as black) that she ties up in a ponytail with bangs hanging on the right side, dark brown eyes and she is 168cm tall.

Unlike other characters, she doesn't stick to a certain outfit, and instead switches it up everyday. In chibi form, she is usually portrayed with two straight lines for eyes and a triangular mouth forming an irritated expression and an ahoge.

Personality

Mato is a very kind and extroverted lady, but she doesn't hesitate punishing others if it's necessary and she is also spirited as she has plenty of positive energy and she a person who encourages, strengthens and supports friends and loved ones.

Etymology

• The name Mato means "real, genuine" (真) (ma) and "Dipper" (斗) (to), which is likely referring to her guiding her students like the North Star.
• Mato's surname Katori means "fire" (火) (ka) and "bird" (鳥) (tori).

Trivia

• Mato's car is named Pokoten the 3rd (ぽこてん3号くん), a reference to President Aria Pokoteng from Kozue Amano's previous series, Aria. She also has a stuffed Aria hanging from her car's mirror.
• Another teacher named Mamoru Towano has a crush on Mato.
