On the day of the school fitness evalutations, Hikari Kohinata is admiring Futaba Ooki as she parks her scooter. Hikari muses that Futaba is beautiful, but that she also has a presence different to a normal person because of her poise. Futaba notice her staring and asks if there's something wrong, but Hikari blusters and changes the subject. They walk to class together.
The students change into their PE uniform and head to the gym to begin their fitness evaluation. Split up from Hikari, Futaba gets really nervous in the gym full of students she doesn't really know and is shaking too much to do the first fitness test. Hikari spots her and joins her, completing the rest of the tests with her. Although Futaba says that she's a weakling and doubts herself, she keeps up with Hikari and nearly all the tests and the other students are impressed. Futaba wonders why she thinks she's a weakling.
The final test is on the track completing first a 50m sprint and then a 1,000m long distance run. During the 50m sprint, Futaba initially sprints ahead but the second another student overtakes her she gives up and stops trying. Hikari notices that she gave up and Futaba just insists she's bad at sports. Before the 1,000m sprint Hikari takes Futaba aside and gives her a plan - they'll wait for everyone else to run off after the starting pistol so that they're in last place, and then run at a slow pace until the final race, then give it their all in the final lap. Hikari tells Futaba that it's ok to not enjoy things, but that you shouldn't run away from them, and instead try to figure out how to approach it so you can think about it differently. The girls follow the plan, and end up coming 1st and 2nd in the race after putting their all into the final lap. Hikari realises that the problem all along is that Futaba actually hates to lose.
