SummaryEdit

Amanchu (manga) - Chapter 30 - 01
On the last day of summer vacation, all the members of the diving club are in their homes and experiencing different feelings about the end of their break. Futaba Ooki is glad that vacation is over because she feels it was too long, Ai and Makoto Ninomiya are mourning the end of vacation and feel it was way too short, and Mato Katori is in a melancholic mood now that summer is over. Hikari Kohinata calls each of them in turn and invites them to come with her to the Anjinsai fireworks festival.

After ending the call, Mato considers to herself that she's never had good memories about fireworks because of the difficulty of walking in a yukata, struggling to navigate through tightly packed crowds, and barely being able to see the fireworks through he sea of peoples' heads surrounding you.

Amanchu (manga) - Chapter 30 - 02
Later that afternoon, the group meets up to go to the festival together. Futaba and Hikari are in yukatas, Mato is in plain clothes, and Ai and Makoto are wearing jinbeis. The group enters the festival and each split up in order to buy a different food item for the group. After meeting back up, they are about to decide where to go and eat their food together, when Hikari reveals that she's had a plan all along, and leads them to an exclusive seating area away from the crowds where they have tickets for the very front row.

Amanchu (manga) - Chapter 30 - 03
While the rest of the group goes through the food they bought, Mato wanders away from them to have a cigarette. She reminisces that she hasn't always had such a pessimistic view of fireworks - she has a memory from when she was very young that she got lost at the fireworks festival and was separated from her parents. She was terrified of being squashed in the busy crowd and by the booming sound of the fireworks.
Amanchu (manga) - Chapter 30 - 04
Suddenly, a kind man found her and lifted her up onto his shoulders in the hopes that she might find her parents. From this high vantage point with a totally unobstructed view, the young Mato had a 360 degree view of the fireworks spreading out across the sky like a field of flowers. Mato wonders if this memory was really just a dream.

Amanchu (manga) - Chapter 30 - 05
The group takes their seats on the front row and gets ready for the fireworks to begin. The fireworks set off right in front of them, and from their unobstructed vantage point, get to see the fireworks like a field of flowers just like in Mato's memory.
Amanchu (manga) - Chapter 30 - 06
After the fireworks end, the group are all in awe of what they just saw. After the group chats about the ending of the summer, Mato wanders away again, and wonders if the fireworks she saw as a child really were real, and if the man who helped her back then is somehow under the same Izu sky and watched the fireworks too. As she thinks this, she doesn't notice that the same man just walked by her.

TriviaEdit

  • Anjinsai Fireworks Festival is a real festival held each year in Izu. It celebrates Miura Anjin, an English sailor who was the first to reach Japan in the 1600s. Izu, Shizuoka - where Amanchu is set - was once in Miura Anjin's fiefdom after he was made a samurai.
